SECTION 2: Module 2- The Truths of Purpose

You are the Solution to a Problem in Your Generation
You are the solution to a problem in your generation! You are significant, you are important, and your purpose is a solution to a problem. Your purpose must prevail,  and it must also be protected.
The world is wrought with many problems and challenges, and you were not born to solve them all. Rather, you were born to be the solution to a specific, precise problem which your gifts, capabilities and other characteristics are tailored for. Purpose is not vague or broad, instead purpose creates precision.

Root Cause Analysis

A Root Cause Analysis is a systemic process and strategy to determine the "root causes" of problems or events and serves as an analysis tool that helps us with determining the best response strategies. A Root Cause Analysis is used in corporations to provide clarity and a process to identify and correct challenges. Similarly, you can use a Root Cause Analysis to uncover the problem you were designed to solve. A Root Cause Analysis uses the question "why" to uncover the root of "why." The strategy works by isolating a problem and asking the question why (at least five times) to identify the problem to solve. Remember, in the last unit when we discussed how toddlers would ask the question “why” without ceasing? It is now time to apply that strategy.

Review your personal root cause analysis.

The 5 Questions of The Human Heart (Using the Six Honest Serving Men)

  1. WHO AM I? - IDENTITY

  2. WHERE AM I FROM?- SOURCE

  3. WHY AM I HERE? - PURPOSE

  4. WHAT CAN I DO? - POTENTIAL

  5. WHERE AM I GOING & HOW?- DESTINY (VISION)

  6. WHEN IS MY TIME?- FULFILLMENT & ALIGNMENT

The combination of these two frameworks pushes us to consider more deeply where we are going and how. This builds on understanding your destiny and crafting the vision for your life.

Another important addition that this combination generates is “When is my time?” This is not a question to encourage anxiousness, impatience or an ego-driven desire to control every detail of your life. Instead, this question is about the appointed time.

“How to Discover & Refine Your Gift,” we learned the following:

  1. Focus on one gift or passion (of all of your gifts, which are you most passionate about?)

  2. Seek & Seize opportunities to use your gift freely, with no charge, to refine your gift

  3. Use this opportunity and others to gain knowledge & practice on people

  4. Continue to plant seeds (by sharing your gifts)

  5. Seek to become a person of value

The Golden Circle

When we are sharing or communicating our value to others, there is a tendency to place emphasis on sharing what we do or even how we do it to set us apart from others. Yet, The Golden Circle places  “why” at the center as the most important question because it represents the purpose, or core beliefs of an individual or organization. Why is the reason an organization exists, why is also purpose, and your purpose is the reason for your existence.

Core Values

Core values speak to who you are, who you want to be and how you will behave. Core values also represent the areas in your life that you know need improvement and speak to who you would like to become. These are the non-negotiables in your life.
